AGE GROUP
OBJECTIVES
To provide Challenges that are specifically aimed at giving AS and A2 students who are studying design technology or science subjects the opportunity to work on a project that is directly related to their coursework and supports the A level curriculum. To offer to AS and A2 level students the opportunity of working on a “ real” project with a local company so offering the students expert help and advice during the duration of the project. To give each student the opportunity to hone their Key Skills of teamwork, problem solving, ICT and presentation as they work on the Challenge and then present their completed work to their supporting company.
All teams will be briefed by the company by the end of September on what is required to complete the Challenge in two terms. There will be two follow up meetings and a final presentation at the end of the second term given to company personnel who will judge each team’s project. Prizes and certificates are then awarded to the team that has understood the challenge and delivered a design close to the specification.
Schools and Colleges apply to Surrey SATRO to participate in one or more Challenges in early September. They are then informed of dates of the briefing and follow up meetings. The briefing will take place on company premises so giving students a chance to understand the background to that company and its products.
